Rooms: The Cafeteria... By Fiona Bland FBland@Lonet.ca DISCLAIMERS: I don't own them and I never will. They are the product of Chris Carter, Ten Thirteen Productions, (after your birthday? How unoriginal!) and Fox. AUTHOR'S NOTES: I've got to stop writing these things in one night! Their killing my marks at college! Chris Carter, I blame you for all of this. Gillian Anderson, I thank you, you rock!! Oh yeah, add Mitch Pileggi in there under the thank you column. This is in my new series called "Rooms". To date listed below there's two others, "The Sauna" and "The Training Room." There's no need to worry because neither of these need to be read before reading this one. But please.... ....read them! RATING: It's just too weird. There's some MSR and UST but nothing that the anti-shippers won't like. There's some language in it but it's nothing that no one's heard before. Oh yeah, there's a...no wait, I'm not going to tell you because that would spoil the ending! H, S, T - PG SUMMARY: A late night...two agents...a key...and a darkened empty room... TO CHRIS CARTER: Phone Kirsten back! FLAMES: Hey I love getting those things but then again, their only as good as the person who responds to them! Here's the address if you dare to flame me. Me the pyrotechnic. I love fire and flames! Go on, I dare you.... FBland@Lonet.ca Written and completed on Monday, October 7th 1996. Dana Scully and her partner, Fox Mulder were staying late one Thursday night in an attempt to finish up the last of the paperwork from their previous before the long weekend. Normally, Scully would have been happy to take the work home to finish, but Mulder insisted that she was to stay at their office, in other words, he wanted Scully to do most of the work while he slacked off. "Fuck this, I'm out of here." Fox Mulder said aloud as he tossed his current file aside. "Excuse me?" Scully said as she removed her glasses and rubbed the bridge of her nose. "Just come on Scully!" Mulder said as he stood up from behind his desk. "I'm starving. Let's go get something to eat." "But Mulder, there's nothing open around here right now." Scully protested as she looked back at her report. Mulder dug around in his pockets until he found his keys. "Scully, it's like I always said, where there's a will, there's a way." "I thought it was where there's a will, I want to be in it.'" Scully replied. "So what do your keys unlock?" "You'd be surprised." Mulder laughed as he searched for a specific key. "Tonight in our case, it's our sanctuary." "Huh?" Scully asked as she followed him out of their office and down the hall towards a familiar room. Mulder looked around to make sure that no one was around before he unlocked the main entrance door. "Isn't this breaking and entering?" Scully asked as she couldn't believe what Mulder was doing. He had keys for the staff cafeteria. "No, not exactly. We do have to a key but..." Mulder flicked on some lights as he waited for Scully to walk through the door. He then bend down and but a wooden doorstop in the doorway so it wouldn't close completely. "But what?" "We just have to remember that this door cannot close." Mulder replied as he walked towards the kitchen area of the cafeteria. Scully looked puzzled. "Or what?" "Put it this way, we'll be stuck here until the morning staff arrive." Mulder smiled as he found his way to the coffee machines. "Uh Mulder, I wouldn't drink that stuff." Scully tried to stop her partner but it was too late. Mulder turned on the coffee maker and added several cups of water with three as many scoops of ground coffee mix. "I hope you like your coffee extra strong." "Actually, I'm in the mood for tea." Scully searched around the large kitchen until she found the display of various kinds of teas. "What should I have?" She muttered to herself as she read each kind of tea. There was peppermint, Earl Gray, honey, apple cinnamon, lemon, orange mango, ginger, a Hawaiian blend, English breakfast and several other kinds she didn't recognized. "Why don't you make up a pot and put a variety in." Mulder suggested as he reappeared from behind the counter. In his hands was a very large cup of steaming coffee. "What do you suggest?" Scully asked as she watched him take a sip. His eyes nearly bugged out as the caffeine hit is system almost instantly. "Go for the apple cinnamon, lemon, orange mango and the Hawaiian blend." Mulder handed her several tea bags as she put a kettle on. Scully looked at him and shook her head. "No way. I'll have the orange mango and the Hawaiian blend. It's supposed to be really good, I hear." "It's your life." Mulder smiled as he wandered toward the food. "Now to get everything from the major food groups." Scully couldn't believe her ears. "Mulder, you're actually going to eat healthy foods?" Mulder shook his head. "Who said that it was going to be healthy. I'm talking about my four major food groups. Caffeine, pastries, sugar and of course chocolate." Scully nearly gagged. "Mulder, that's not healthy." "How are you, my mother?" Mulder snapped. Scully's face fell. "Sorry, it's just that you have remember that you only live once. Besides, I'm on my second life." Scully rolled her eyes as she wandered over to where he was standing. There was many cereals, danishes, crusty bagels, fruit, croissants, and other breakfast foods. As she grabbed for the oat bran cereal, Mulder tapped her hand with the back of his spoon. "You're not having that cardboard while I'm around." He passed three boxes. They were frosted flakes, frosted cheerios and frosted shreddies. Scully raised one eyebrow. "I'm sensing a pattern here." "Well you haven't tried anything until you'll mixed them together with chocolate milk." Mulder grinned widely. "You can't be serious." Scully looked at the three labels for their sugar content. "Mulder, there's enough sugar in here to choke an ant." "And you're point is?" Mulder asked as he found two large bowls and filled them with a mixture of the three frosted cereals. "And now for the finishing touch, chocolate milk." "I'm not eating that." Scully protested as she watched Mulder in great disgust. "Ah come on Scully, live a little." Mulder begged as he passed her one of the bowls. "I do live a little. I have to stand you for forty-plus hours a week plus weekends." Scully replied as she heard her stomach growl. "Fine for you, I'll try that toxic concoction if you'll eat a equally large bowl of oat bran flakes." "Oh I don't know, Scully." Mulder paused for a second. "You know what bran does to me." "Yeah it makes you semi-normal." Scully said with a laugh as she dumped his bowl into a nearby garbage and reached for the oat bran cereal. "What did you mean by semi-normal." Mulder asked as he finished off the rest of his coffee. "No wait I take it back...I mean semi-insane." "That's better Scully, I was almost worried for a second." Mulder disappeared to the coffee maker and returned with a large mug of Scully's tea. "Thanks." Scully grabbed the two bowls of cereal and followed him to a table. * 2 A.M. * After Mulder and Scully had finished their early-morning snack and cleaned up, Mulder noticed a flashlight on the wall across the hall. "Hey Scully, get down." "Why?" She whispered. "Follow me." Mulder crouched down and crawled on his hands and knees to the back of the kitchen. Scully was about a meter behind him when she stopped dead in her tracks. "Psst." Mulder spun around her and whispered what.' "Listen." Scully remained crouched down and Mulder crawled over to her. "Someone's in here." Mulder nodded. "Come on." He hinted to hide in the shadows of the counter where he put his back up against the steel shelving. Scully nodded and worked her way over to where he was hiding. "What should we do?" She whispered. "Hide until they leave and pray that they don't close the door." Mulder was trying to hide more as he sensed the intruders come closer. Scully was making herself as small as she could but her red locks were reflecting on the appliances. "Is he gone yet?" Mulder shock his head no as he turned to peer over the edge of the counter. "He's right...." Scully's heart doubled it's speed when Mulder was cut off. "What do you see?" Mulder locked eyes with the intruder. "Mulder?" The man asked. "Danny?" Mulder was speechless. "What are you doing down here at this late hour?" "I was working on something for Agent Scully..." His jaw hit the floor when he saw her appear standing beside Mulder. "Agent Pendrell." Scully's voice sank. Pendrell's eyes nearly popped out. "Uh, Agent Scully, I... uh..." He was blushing profusely. "I'll just go now and leave you two alone." Mulder shot a glance to Scully then whispered in her ear. Scully's nearly went into shock. "Do you think it will work." She whispered back. Mulder nodded. "It's worth the try, if not, we're in deep trouble." "Okay but if this doesn't work, your ass is mine." Scully said under her breath as she walked toward the departing Pendrell. "Oh, Agent Pendrell?" "Yes, Agent Scully." His voice cracked. "I was wondering if this would help you forget what you saw." She leaned in and kissed him. Mulder watched in amazement as his plan worked. "Okay you two, I think that that's enough." Scully pulled away from Pendrell as he stood there in a mild case of shock. "Sure. Hey, Mulder don't forget to leave some money for the cereal and coffee." Scully was about to leave when she turned back to Pendrell. "Pendrell, are you going to be okay?" Pendrell started to say something but ended up drooling instead. Mulder grabbed Scully's hand. "We're out of here. Pendrell, are you coming?" "Uh...yeah...I...." Pendrell managed to say. BACK AT THEIR OFFICE... Scully just managed to crash in her chair before she burst out laughing. Mulder did the same after he shut the door to their office. Both of them laughed until their sides hurt. "Is he still standing there?" Scully asked as she whipped away the tears. "I think so." Mulder tried to say between laughs. "So what did you do to him?" "I did what you told me." Scully replied as she tried to compose herself again. "Scully, all I said was to make a pass at him not give him mouth-to-mouth." Mulder responded as he ducked from the incoming stapler. As he sat up again, Scully nailed him with an elastic to his ear. "Bingo!" She called out as she hit him. "Ouch!" Mulder yelped in pain. "That was a low blow." "And your comment wasn't?" Scully looked up at her watch. "Mulder's after two thirty in the morning, I'm going home. What do you say?" "To going to your place? I thought you'd never ask!" Scully nailed him again with an elastic. "Uncle, uncle. I give in." "Good." Scully stood and packed her briefcase. "I'm going to leave a message on Skinner's voice mail that I'm not coming in tomorrow morning. Do you want me to say the same for you?" "Sure." Mulder also packed up his stuff and held the door open for his partner. "Uh oh." "What?" Scully asked as she flicked off the lights. Mulder pointed down the hallway. "Oh, I guess we should do something about that." Mulder thought for a second and was about to say something when Scully glared at him. "Don't you dare say a thing." Scully walked quickly down the hall towards Pendrell. She spoke with him until she knew that he was out of his shock then she returned to where Mulder was standing. "What did you say to him?" Mulder asked as his ears were burning to know. "I told him that whatever he though happened, didn't and that to make it up, I told him that I'd try to fix him up with Skinner's assistant, Kimberly." Scully told him as she headed for the parking lot entrance. "If that works, do you think you can fix me up with someone?" Mulder asked. "That may be harder, everyone knows about your reputation." Scully smiled. She thought. "That was low." Mulder smiled as he dug around for his car keys. "Hey I do know a certain Pisces that wouldn't mind being fixed up with you." Scully smiled as she unlocked her car. Mulder's ears perked up. "You do?" "Yeah, I do." ************************ The end for now.... So what did you think? Flames are to be sent to: FBland@Lonet.ca.
